Ultimate Comfort Food

One of the things I love the most is spending time with my family and especially my mum. Going back to the family home in Sheffield me and my mum don’t waste any time in getting in the kitchen and getting knee deep in flour! I make as much mess as I possibly can and we make a family favourite, bint al sahn.

We have to put some elbow grease into the rolling to stretch out the bread flour to get the paper thin flaky scrumptious bread. It takes a lot of concentration (from me anyway)…

Then we get the egg and butter going and sprinkle with black seeds or you can use sesame…

I add the beautiful sidr do’ani honey with its hint of caramel and result, a delicious sweet bread to devour. And that’s just what we do…clean the plate!

Cooking together and eating together is the best.

For the recipe and how to make bint al sahn check out my post:  Bint Al Sahn (Yemeni Honey Cake)

What are your family favourites?

My Top Three (not necessarily on the same day)

Dinner

Roast beef and all the trimmings with potatoes roasted, mashed AND chipified! (what can I say, I love spuds).

Or

Yemeni veggie kebsa with chilli sauce and salad

Snack

Smoothies, I love em.

Dessert

Either bint al sahn OR Sticky toffee pudding with cream on the side.

Reminds me of The Dubai Food Festival when my good friend, Chef Russell Impiazzi Culinary Director of Gourmet Lafayette created sticky date and honey cake at Ibn Batutta Mall with Suzanne Radford.
