The 14th Dubai Film Festival gets underway and I’m right chuffed Balqees is a sponsor again giving health and sustenance to the stars. We are situated in the VIP lounge where the actors gather after walking the red carpet.
The film fest is an amazing week of showcasing new works and this year over 140 films will be screened over eight days. The film industry gathers at the stunning Madinat Jumeirah and along with gala dinners and premiers the industry gets to network and ideas and relationships are developed. This year we can look forward to an ‘In conversation’ with Shakespearean actor and star of the Star Trek: The Next Generation series and the X-Men films Sir Patrick Stewart as he is presented with a life time achievement award.
The festival brings us a range of diverse films and features both locally from the gulf region and across the globe. See the full programme here: https://dubaifilmfest.com/en/schedule.html
In celebration of film and the impact it can make in entertaining, educating and shifting mind-sets I give you three of my favourite films over the years featuring honey and bees!
Mr. Bug Goes to Town
Its an oldie but a goodie and amazing how the message then is pretty much the same today. Human, don’t mess things up. Its an animated feature from the 1940s about the adventures of Hoppity the grasshopper who goes to New York City from the country. Bugs and insects hang out at the Honey Shop of old Mr. Bumble the bee and his daughter Honey but its Hoppity against urban living who is ready to save the earth and keep things green!
The Secret Life of Bees
S tarring a young Dakota Fanning who plays Lily, a girl in South Carolina who escapes her troubled past and finds solace when she learns the art of beekeeping. A coming-of-age story that explorers resilience and the human side of loss and betrayal. Also starring Queen Latifah and Jennifer Hudson the film is based on the novel written by author Sue Monk and produced by Will Smith.
Bee Movie
Then of course there is Bee Movie. Funny with Jerry Seinfeld as the non-conforming bee-college graduate Barry Benson who meets a human and becomes a bee-rights activist. Interesting story line!
